PHS Young Friends was on hand at the Fall Garden Festival accepting planting plastics (the liners and containers that come with your plants) from festival attendees. The tent—manned by volunteers Brooke and Irene—was a hub of activity. By the time I arrived around 1pm, 1/3 of what was dropped had already been reused by festival attendees shopping at the various plant vendors.
All plastics that were not reused were recycled by Waste Management (who also did the trash disposal at the event) at the close of the event.
Not only was the recycling tent a success during the festival, but it had people wondering how they might encourage nurseries and hardware stores to instate year-round programs.
