According to a study by the Yale University Project on Climate Change Communication, undecided voters care about climate change.
Of those likely to vote on November 6, only seven percent are yet undecided. The study says the following about these voters:
- They are more likely than Romney voters to consider climate change as an important issue
- They desire government action on issues of climate change
- They are as likely as Obama supports to believe that global warming is caused by humans
Anthony Leiserowitz, the director of the Yale program, says researchers were “surprised to look at how undecided voters broke on this issue, that they were much more similar to Obama voters than they were to Romney voters.”
Also revealed in the study:
- 75% of likely Obama voters see global warming as an “important issue”
- 32% of likely Romney voters see global warming as an “important issue”
- 86% of likely Obama voters believe the planet is warming
- 45% of likely Romney voters believe the planet is warming
- 65% of likely Obama voters believe humans are contributing to global warming
- 27% of likely Romney voters believe humans are contributing to global warming
- 61% of likely Obama voters think he should do more to combat climate change
- 35% of likely Romney voters think the president should do more about climate change; 47% think the president should do less
- 85% of likely Obama supporters support alternative energies (out of concern for the climate)
- 73% of likely Romney voters support alternative energies (as a means of ending America’s dependency on foreign oil)
Overall the study indicates that Democrats are more aware of and concerned about issues related to climate change.
