For 40 years, Billy Barr of Gothic, Colorado has been studying snow.
Initially just a way to pass time, the data he’s collected has become an important information source for scientists from the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab who’ve used it as clear evidence of climate change.
A short film, “The Snow Garden,” has even been made about Barr and his data. In it, Barr is seen at his remote cabin collecting daily temperature and snowfall measures. Barr offers observations on what he’s seen like changes to permanent snow pack and emergence of bare ground and incidences of record-high temperatures.
