vendy awards, philadelphia vendy awards, philadelphia food trucks

For those who’ve entered into heated debates over the merits of the city’s food trucks, we give you the Vendy Awards.

Started in New York in 2005, the Vendy Awards is an annual event that pits food cart vendors against one another to determine whose food reigns supreme.  The awards are coming to Philly July 9 from 3pm to 7pm at the Piazza at Schmidt’s

Why are we telling you this?  Because we want to help our readers settle their outstanding food related feuds and because proceeds from the awards will benefit the Food Trust which strives to bring fresh, healthy food to the masses.

Anyone can nominate their favorite vendor through June 20th.  The top eight to ten vote-getters will be invited to compete for the awards like Rookie of the Year, Best Dessert, the People’s Taste Award and the mother of all street food awards, the Vendy Cup.

If you’re able to participate we encourage you to support sustainably minded vendors. Two of our favorites include Renaissance Sausage who serve locally-sourced, free-range sandwiches and Honest Tom’s where they make taco wraps so good you’ll forget all about those sit-down establishments!
