Architects, bicycling advocates, urban planners and city departments on Friday will participate in Park(ing) Day to demonstrate the power of green spaces in urban environments.
Park(ing) Day was created in 2005 by San Francisco based design group Rebar. It was first celebrated in Philadelphia in 2005 with 25 installations. Since then, Philadelphians have enjoyed the intriguing possibilities of 170 square feet apple orchards, beanbag toss stations, cafes, and lush, green places to breathe deep and relax.
This year, spaces will be transformed in Center City, Southwest Philly, University City, Northern Liberties, Mount Airy and Manyunk. Explore spaces near you.
