Mapping Emissions

car exhaust, smog, vehicle pollution, greenhouse gases

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has unveiled a new website identifying some of the nation’s biggest emitters of harmful greenhouse gases.

The collection of the information and public release was mandated, but the information allows citizens to see what’s happening in their area and to start enacting sustainable changes.

The map shows that the majority of the emissions are from carbon dioxide produced by coal-burning power plants.  Large facilities account for half the emissions in the US.  The other half comes from every day polluters like chimney flues, vehicles and other fossil fuel burners.
