IKEA’s Bright Idea

IKEA Lamp

Home furnishing giant IKEA will no longer sell incandescent light bulbs in its US and Canadian stores.

The retailer began phasing out traditional bulbs over the summer and will now only offer energy-efficient lighting options like compact fluorescents (CFL’s), LED’s, halogens, and solar-powered lamps.

Stores in Australia and France will start to phase out incandescent bulbs beginning in 2012.

IKEA’s US president, Mike Ward, says the change is just “one simple way for IKEA customers to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gases.”
