Gasland Nominated for an Oscar

Oscar, Academy Award, Gasland nomination, best documentary

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has given “Gasland” a nomination for best documentary.

The film, which draws attention the perils of natural gas drilling (fracking), made its debut on HBO last summer and screened in our area.

Director Josh Fox told the Times Herald-Record that “this is a great moment that will bring more attention to the problem. It’s all about drawing more attention to the problem and the families who’ve been hurt by drilling.”

Lee Fuller, executive director pro-drilling group, Energy In Depth, thought the film would fit better in a “propaganda” category and diminished the nomination by stating that Oscars are designed to praise “Hollywood’s elite” (i.e. liberal and pro-clean energy).
