Boom used to contain oil in the Gulf following this spring’s devastating spill will be reused by Chevrolet.
The makers of the electric operated Volt will convert 100 miles of plastic material into auto parts. Specifically, the plastic will be used to deflect air from the electric car’s radiator.
The Volt goes about 35 miles on battery power before relying on the gasoline engine to generate electricity.
Though much of the 2,550 miles of boom used in the Gulf has already been dumped in landfills and incinerators, Chevy’s attempts to develop anything sustainable from an environmental disaster is admirable.
