FarmPlate: It’s What’s for Dinner

FarmPlate.com, Philly locavore, Philadelphia farming

What if finding a sustainable food supplier and responsible restaurant was as easy as your everyday Google search?  Thanks to FarmPlate.com, it is.

FarmPlate.com is a searchable directory of over 40,000 businesses with sustainable food and drink offerings.  The idea is to aid consumers in finding businesses that share their commitment to responsible food practices and to help small businesses grow by increasing their online presence.  More specifically, FarmPlate’s mission is to “help sustainable food businesses expand their markets.”

Because the site is newly launched, it may not yet include all sustainable grocers and eateries in your area.  In the Philadelphia region, however, the site is full of results.  A quick search of restaurants within five miles of the 19147 zip code yielded 76 results ranging from locally owned bakeries to kitchens sourcing ingredients from local farmers.  There are 18 markets within a five mile radius and 25 local farmers within 25 miles of our home base.

All encouraging news for organic ingesting locavores.
