EarthAid: Rewarding Energy Savers

EarthAid, EarthAid Philadelphia

Saving energy saves you money.  This is a fact that EarthAid is bringing to the masses by way of  their comprehensive energy savings rewards program.

EarthAid was founded in 2007 to help consumers save energy by monitoring their consumption and educating them on how to live more sustainably.  Smart enough to understand that it takes incentives to motivate people into changing behavior, the group debuted their online rewards program in 2009.

The rewards site allows consumers to view their electric, gas, and water usage in one and to see how their usage changes from one billing cycle to the next.  The site offers tools and tips to empower the consumer to be more energy savvy and alerts them of additional savings in their area offered through tax incentives and rebates.

The signup process takes just seconds.  You will be prompted to enter an email account, confirm your address, and choose your electric, gas, and water providers.  EarthAid will then communicate (securely) with your utility providers to retrieve your information.  Once this information is received, the monitoring of your usage begins.

The simplicity of the process has been duplicated in several urban centers including Philadelphia where it is being promoted by students from the University of Pennsylvania (U Penn).  The goal of U Penn’s student group is to spread the mission of sustainability to the region by signing 300 residential homes up for the program.  Their efforts to reach the community include hand-to hand marketing, outreach through cultural centers and churches, a man in a green unitard, and an evening of entertainment to be held November 14 on campus.

Members of the Philadelphia rewards program can enjoy rewards from businesses like Juju Salon and Organics, Paddy Whacks Irish Sports Pub, Big Green Earth Store, The Pita Pit, Yards Brewing Company, and Bario Neal
