Did you hear? The SunChips bag is back.

SunChip bag, SunChips, biodegradable chip bag, loud chip bag

Secret snackers rejoice: Frio-Lay is reissuing a quieter version of their biodegradable SunChips bag!

Originally introduced in April 2009, the biodegradable bag was well reviewed for its environmental impact, but drew great criticism for being too loud.  The plant based material was measured in decibels similar to city street noise which proved to be too much for consumers.  Frito-Lay went back to its regular plastic bag in October.

PepsiCo Inc., the owner of Frito-Lay, has spent the past year (and an undisclosed amount of money) devising a solution.  Engineers looked at dozens of options finally arriving at a rubber-like adhesive that goes between the bags two layers to absorb sound.

The new bag registers at 70 decibels, which is ten to fifteen lower than the first biodegradable model and similar to that of other chip bags.

The new bags are in stores now and available only in the plain flavor.  The company will extend the packaging to other flavors after receiving consumer feedback.
