Clean Air Creates Jobs

air pollution, smog, Clean Air Act

Proposed rules on air pollution in the US could create 1.5 million jobs in the next five years.

Issued by Ceres, the report called “New Jobs-Cleaner Air,” says construction workers, pipefitters, and engineers could all see job increases as the country works to reign in air pollution. Many of the jobs created would be temporary, but several thousand operations and maintenance jobs would be permanent. There are also jobs to be created to market and sell clean air technologies.

Contrary to the beliefs of many Republicans, economists say the Clean Air Act has been good for the economy.  A report from the University of Massachusetts Political Economy Research Institute, says that since 2003 every dollar spent on enforcing the act has resulted in $4 to $8 boost to the economy.
