Chevron Abandons Coal

Huffington Post reports that Chevron Corporation intends to quit coal by year’s end.

The company determined that advances in coal technologies were slow and to stay in such a field would not be good business.  One such advance called coal-to-liquids, which processes coal into diesel and other fuel, is still 10-15 years away from fruition.

As part as the shift away from coal, Chevron will sell three mines in Alabama, New Mexico, and Wyoming which produced nearly 10 million tons of coal in 2009.
