An Ice Cold Cup of Snow

To help quench a water shortage in its capital city, China will collect and melt snow this winter.

Two vehicles will collect and process snow and ice at a rate of 3,500 cubic feet per hour.  Snow will also be dumped into rivers throughout the city to be used for routine road cleaning, irrigation, and to help maintain the rivers’ water level.

China has suffered under a water shortage for years.  Experts point to global warming, severe drought, and a surging population (neighboring nations point to dams).  The water supply in Chine is 1.37 billion cubic meters less than the demand.
