A LOVEly Makeover

Love Park, Love Park Philadelphia, Philly Love Park

One of Philadelphia’s most notable spaces, Love Park, will receive a sustainable makeover in 2012.

With direction from the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA), the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and the Fairmount Park Commission, the surface of the space will be stripped away to bring the park down to street level where it will be more pedestrian friendly and handicap accessible.

To enhance sustainability, the site will be designed to capture rain water for new gardens and materials used to repair the garage roof and windows will be chosen responsibly. Underground, the PPA garage will be fit with six spaces for recharging electric cars.

The project is expected to take about a year and will be paid for by PPA who owns the lot under the park.  The completed sustainable design will maintain the diagonal site lines from the park to Ben Franklin Parkway and Robert Indiana’s iconic LOVE sculpture.
